My Life as a Coder by Janet Tashjian & Jake Tashjian

Derek is given a present. A laptop! With no internet or games! Best present ever, right? (I think so) The only way Derek can do games on it is if he codes them himself. He enrolls in a coding class taught by his school’s lunch server! When a few catastrophes happen, Derek finds out that he was unknowingly helping. Derek has to frame the mastermind all while pretending to help her.

I liked the places on the sides where there were drawings to explain some of the harder words. I also like what his parents did with the laptop (I wish that my parents did that to me) This is a funny coding adventure and I really liked reading it. I would recommend this book to parents who want their kids to try something new... and to kids who are in probably 3rd grade and up.

Team BFF: race to the finish

#2 in the Girls Who Code series, in this book about Sophie, Lucy, Maya, Erin, and Leila, Sophie is really excited for the hackathon in the community center gym on saturday, but then she finds out that she has to babysit her sisters on the day of the hackathon. Can she find a way to get to the hackathon, or will all of her friends be disqualified? 

I really liked that it was about coding and they had the really fun thing in the end that I can't tell you about because it would be a spoiler. It is an amazing book about coding and I’m really excited about it because I think they were using JavaScript. It is a good book about coding and I would recommend it to blooming coders, but read the first book first. Also, please check out the third book and tell me what you think about it in the comments.

Click’d by Tamara Ireland Stone

Allie, a student in Mercer Middle School, creates an app called Click’d that gets in a competition called Games for Good (G4G, a competition of games that are made to do good in the world). Click’d is a game where users take a test about themselves and are paired up with other users who answered the questions the same way they did and scores them on a leaderboard of 1-10. When Click’d gets a glitch that might expose users’ dirty secrets, Allie has to fix the app before the G4G competition.

I really liked all of the coding talk although I wonder what coding language she was using, I am learning JavaScript right now. I would really like to make a game like Click’d where it is like geocaching but for people, where people will get on the app and it would show them the locations of other people who are playing on the app and they would try to find one of the dots/people and when two people find each other they tap their phones together and they can talk. I do not recommend this book, I demand that you try it out. It is really awesome.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

A new girl (se llama) who called herself Stargirl starts at Mica Area High School (MAHS). She was not like any of the rest of the kids. She dressed differently, she did kind things to strangers, and she cheered for the other team. When Leo became her girlfriend he noticed things that she didn’t like the way people ignored her and never talked to her.

Well... it's hard to enjoy a book when you are being forced to read it, otherwise it's a really good book. It was really inspirational to read about this one girl, different from the others who doesn’t care what they think of her. It's a heartwarming story and a good read. (despite being forced to read it)

Rooting for Rafael Rosales by Kurtis Scaletta

This book is about Rafael Rosales from six years ago and Maya from today. Rafael spends his afternoons playing ball with his friends and hoping that he can get a career in baseball. Maya cares a lot about the environment when she learns about a baseball player that she starts to follow-not literally, that would be creepy-named Rafael Rosales. 

Its a heartwarming story and its fun to watch these two character’s lives overlap. I didn’t really like Maya’s dad until the end of the book. I’m assuming you would feel the same when you read the book. I liked the bee garden that Maya made. It inspired me to make one myself. Welp, gottagoplantthebeegardenbye!!!

The Dragon Thief by Zetta Elliott

The characters are Kavita, Jaxon, “Auntie”, Vik, blue, and many more (including Jeff the fairy) Jaxon has to find a missing baby dragon that had been stolen from him and he wanted to also bring balance between the realm of magic and the real world. Kavita wanted to give the best life to a baby dragon. Every time it eats, it grows. She didn’t want to bring any harm, but baby dragons are ridiculously cute…

I liked the dragons and all of the magic creatures. I also really liked Jeff. In the end, it was hard to tell who was good and who was bad and who was in between. It is a fun read-aloud book, and sometimes its really funny. I would recommend this book as a family read-aloud or a one person reading book. Also remember to read Dragons in a Bag first.
